Welcome to the MELROSE EDUCATION ASSOCIATION web site
The Melrose Education Association is composed of approximately 285 teachers, guidance counselors, librarians, school psychologists, adjustment counselors, special subject teachers, physical and occupational therapists and a nurse. Our members serve the students in the eight public schools in Melrose. We have one high school, one middle school and five neighborhood elementary schools in our community.
It is our hope that this web site will provide general information about our association to the public. Our major purpose, however, is to provide an excellent and easily available source of communication with our members.
Here are a few items you may find useful:
Under Officers and Executive Board you will find the names of our MEA officers and building representatives. There is also a link to e-mail Ted Mateus, our MEA President, as well as the phone number in our office and Ted's association cell phone number.
By using the Calendar link you will find the 2007 - 2008 school calendar with all dates and locations for MEA Executive Board meetings, pay days for both 21 and 26 payrolls, national and religious holidays and school vacations, system wide professional days, and other important dates. If you have concerns or items you would like to bring to the Executive Board meeting for discussion, speak to your building rep, contact the office, or come to the meeting yourself. Members are always welcome.
Related links will get you to the MTA and NEA home pages, the Mass Department of Education, the MTRB (Retirement Board), the Northeast Consortium site (professional development options) and the Melrose Public Schools site among others.
The location of our monthly Executive Board meeting changes each month, but directions are available at the Schools/ Directions link.
You now have access to our contract in PDF format with an easy to use index providing links to specific areas of the agreement. Use the topics link on the left side to search or type in a specific word or phrase such as "maternity leave" and you will be zapped to info in the contract on that topic. I think this component will prove very useful to our membership.
In addition, we will be developing a members area, which will be a secure page, requiring a log in. We will be able to use this for more sensitive information for our members' eyes only.
This web site can be a very useful tool for our membership. Please encourage others to use it.
